About The Position

Charleston Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) is seeking a Dentistry Anesthesia Veterinary Technician to join our growing Dentistry team. In this specialized role, you will provide advanced nursing care and anesthesia support for patients undergoing specialty dentistry and oral surgical procedures while working closely with board-certified specialists and experienced Veterinary Technicians. This is an opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Technician with a strong anesthesia background to build specialized skills in veterinary dentistry, oral surgery, advanced anesthesia, and specialty patient care within a collaborative referral hospital.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program required, current Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT)
  • Strong experience with veterinary anesthesia and patient monitoring
  • Experience assisting with surgery and performing or assisting with veterinary dentistry procedures
  • Strong knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, patient assessment, and peri-anesthetic nursing care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to remain organized in a fast-paced specialty veterinary hospital
  • Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, assistants, and client care team members
  • Commitment to exceptional patient care and client service
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing care, anesthesia support, and technical assistance for specialty dentistry and oral surgical patients.
  • Perform complete patient assessments and accurately document medical records.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Provide exceptional nursing care for hospitalized and outpatient dentistry patients.
  • Monitor patient comfort and advocate for effective pain management.
  • Educate clients on dental disease, treatment plans, home care, and discharge instructions.
  • Assist with advanced dental procedures, oral surgery, biopsies, maxillofacial procedures, and other specialty dentistry services.
  • Obtain high-quality dental radiographs and assist with advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT when indicated.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including positioning, instrumentation, and aseptic preparation.
  • Induce, intubate, monitor, and recover patients undergoing anesthesia for dental and oral surgical procedures.
  • Utilize advanced anesthetic monitoring equipment and respond appropriately to anesthetic complications.
  • Develop individualized anesthetic monitoring plans for complex cases under veterinary supervision.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical suites, dental operatories, instruments, and sterile packs.
  • Maintain dental equipment, imaging systems, anesthesia monitors, and other specialty equipment.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of dental supplies and instruments.
  • Support infection control, regulatory compliance, and department safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and communicate effectively with doctors, Veterinary Technicians, and other members of the specialty team.
  • Collaborate with specialists and fellow Veterinary Technicians to establish efficient workflows and best practices as the Dentistry service continues to grow.
