About The Position

This full-time position is perfect for new graduates from veterinary technology/assistant programs looking to grow in a large referral facility. If you are a veterinary technician/assistant working in a general practice, this is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and technical ability. Join a large referral facility where you work collaboratively with many specialty departments! The General Medicine Technician works collaboratively with their assigned veterinarian, other staff veterinarians, and the entire Angell Support Staff to provide Angell clientele with excellent clinical and customer service. The general medicine service is focused on providing quality primary outpatient and preventative care. The goal of the service is to provide care to a wide variety of cases that would typically be seen by a veterinarian in general practice. These cases include wellness visits in addition to managing dermatologic problems, behavior issues, endocrine diseases, renal disease, seizures, ocular problems, etc. In addition to the wide variety of cases seen there are some of the general medicine doctors who are also USDA certified veterinarians to help Angell clients with international travel certification. These doctor’s and the technical support staff of the general medicine service, make up the Angell International Travel Team. This team is responsible to assist existing Angell clients when traveling internationally with their pets.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience working as a veterinary technician/assistant
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be a certified veterinary technician in order to be hired as a veterinary technician

Responsibilities

  • Perform animal handling and restraint techniques
  • Assist veterinarian with complete history and pre-appointment referral paperwork
  • Trains/coaches newly hired veterinary assistants/technicians and externs with all aspects of exam room and pharmacy policy and procedures
  • Assist veterinarian and/or technician when needed with surgical patient’ paperwork, pre-operative assessments and client education relevant to surgical or anesthetic diagnostic procedures
  • Perform suture and/or staple removals
  • Collect samples including performing phlebotomy
  • Record all owner’s medication accurately and timely in electronic medical record
  • Educate clients about general medicine topics
  • Assist Angell clients with international travel arrangements for their pets
