About The Position

At Cornwallis Road Animal Hospital, the Veterinary Technician Assistant supports animal care and the hospital’s daily operations. The role involves caring for animals, keeping their spaces and the facility clean, documenting care, and assisting with limited front desk duties. The position is suited to someone with a strong work ethic who takes responsibility, completes work accurately and on time, welcomes new ideas, and looks for ways to improve processes. The assistant works with colleagues in a collegial environment focused on animal welfare and high-quality veterinary medicine.

Requirements

• Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, and unpleasant odors.
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged or challenging situations.
• Ability to provide high-quality customer service and embody a yes culture for clients.
• Ability to work effectively with computers, software, and electronics.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Physical ability to handle and restrain animals.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push, and squat for most of the workday.
• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, with or without accommodation.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to take responsibility and make progress.
• Ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner.
• Willingness to listen and try new approaches and other people’s ideas.

Responsibilities

• Feed and water animals as directed.
• Administer medications to pets appropriately.
• Perform minimal front desk duties.
• Restrain animals occasionally.
• Follow laundry procedures.
• Keep facility floors and yards clean.
• Ensure pets have proper identification.
• Document care appropriately.
• Follow safety procedures.
• Keep runs and cages clean throughout the shift.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
