About The Position

This is a seasonal role where the employee will work up to 28 hours per week, with varying days and hours. The ideal candidate is skilled, steady, and quick-thinking, capable of handling high-volume medical work while remaining calm in critical moments, and possesses a love for animals. The role involves supporting the shelter's medical teams in exams, surgery, and treatment, ensuring animals receive safe, timely, and compassionate care.

Requirements

• Associate degree in veterinary technology or related field OR One year of hands-on experience in animal care, vet clinics, or similar setting
• Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of varying temperaments
• Strong multitasking skills in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Knowledge of anesthesia, intubation, and patient monitoring
• Experience with lab equipment and diagnostic procedures
• Understanding of animal behavior, medical terminology, and treatment protocols
• Ability to maintain accurate records and manage controlled substances

Nice To Haves

• Fear Free Shelter Certification (required within 30 days of hire)
• Rabies and tetanus vaccinations (required within 1 year)

Responsibilities

• Assist with exams, surgery, anesthesia, and post-procedure monitoring
• Administer medications, vaccines, and calculate accurate dosages
• Triage incoming animals and assess medical needs and behavior
• Perform lab work, radiographs, and basic diagnostic procedures
• Maintain sterile environments, disinfect equipment, and document care in shelter systems
