About The Position

Oregon State University is recruiting for future, multiple part-time, intermittent Veterinary Technician 2 positions at the Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital within the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine. These positions provide flexible coverage for regularly employed Certified Veterinary Technicians during planned or unplanned absences. Work is approximately 8–40 hours per week as needed, with no set schedule. Staff must be adaptable and ready to work in any hospital area according to patient-care demands and operational priorities. Assignments vary based on caseload and staffing needs to maintain continuity of patient care. The hospital focuses on patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine, and supports education, research, and services to the public. The position provides nursing care and treatments to small and/or large animal patients, assists with diagnostics, and instructs and trains veterinary students. Applicants must hold current Veterinary Technician certification and be able to obtain and maintain Oregon certification within six months of hire. Starting salary is commensurate with skills, education, and experience; the posted range is $28.75–$44.00. Employees work in a busy veterinary teaching hospital and may encounter noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, gas anesthetics, radiation, loud noises, wet or slippery floors, and machinery. Work with small and large animals carries inherent injury risks. The role includes handling controlled substances and administering controlled drugs, and maintaining controlled-drug logs. Employees may need to report during inclement weather, emergencies, or University closures because the positions are deemed essential.
