About The Position

The ASPCA® Veterinary Student Ambassador at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine is a role for passionate veterinary students looking to make a meaningful impact on animal welfare. This position connects students with peers, mentors, and professionals in animal welfare, allowing them to champion ASPCA initiatives. The ambassador will advance organizational goals by engaging and educating fellow students about the ASPCA's work, conducting peer-to-peer outreach, providing information on externships and student resources, and offering logistical support on campus. The role requires comfort working autonomously while knowing when to seek guidance. Success in this role involves enjoying making connections with fellow students and sharing information about the ASPCA.

Requirements

• In good academic standing
• Strong belief in the Mission and Core Values of the ASPCA
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships with peers
• Active membership in at least one student group related to the core work of the ASPCA (e.g., shelter medicine, animal welfare, DEI-focused group, forensics, etc.)
• Not currently a student ambassador for another veterinary or animal welfare organization, non-profit, or company
• Ability to dedicate an average of 3 hours a week during the semester to fulfilling the responsibilities of an ASPCA Student Ambassador
• Ability to work independently (self-starter)
• High-level of maturity and professionalism
• Access to a computer for virtual meetings and email correspondence
• Ability to temporarily store informational and promotional items to be passed out on campus to CVM peers
• English (required)
• Currently enrolled as a veterinary medical student at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine
• High School Diploma (Required)

• Preference will be given to candidates in their 1st through 3rd years of education.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a dedicated representative of the ASPCA at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine
• Stay informed about all student externship opportunities and resources offered by the ASPCA
• Build and nurture relationships with fellow veterinary medicine students and student groups on campus
• Act as a resource for fellow students seeking to learn more about the ASPCA, including our work, veterinary training externship opportunities, resources, and future career pathways
• Act as a point of contact and liaison to provide information regarding upcoming campus events and other opportunities the ASPCA could collaborate with to the ASPCA Campus Relations Senior Manager
• Assist in the logistical planning and executing of events on campus (e.g., conferences, career fairs, etc.) and with student groups (e.g., workshops, presentations, lunch and learns, etc.)
• Present opportunities to student groups and foster engagement and attendance through promoting upcoming events
• Develop written communications about the ASPCA and upcoming events for students
• Maintain academic excellence and a focus on your education
• Abide by the rules and all policies for your school

Benefits

• Compensation: $20 per hour (potential to earn up to $1,000 per semester based on your commitment)
• Flexible Schedule with an average of 3 hours per week (~48 hours per semester)
