About The Position

Essex North Shore is seeking a Veterinary Science Teacher to join our team for the 26/27 school year. This role involves providing instruction in veterinary science, mapping curriculum to state frameworks, and ensuring a safe and effective learning environment. The teacher will work with students on practical skills, document their progress, and collaborate with other educators and industry professionals.

Requirements

  • Licensed or licensable by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as an Animal Science Teacher.
  • Satisfactory SAFIS, CORI and SORI required.
  • General OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred, but required within three years of employment.
  • OSHA Train-the-Trainer certification preferred, but required within five years of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency in veterinary medicine, including diagnostic and treatment planning skills.
  • Experience interpreting and utilizing diagnostic radiology in a clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of veterinary practice operations and practice management principles.
  • Experience treating both small animals and exotic species.
  • Experience managing vivarium operations, including animal care, regulatory compliance, and facility oversight.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and outstanding client service.
  • Experience with large-animal and agricultural veterinary medicine.
  • Strong knowledge of DEA regulations and a proven record of maintaining accurate controlled substance inventory, documentation, and compliance records.
  • CVT or equivalent certification.
  • General OSHA 30-Hour certification.
  • OSHA Train-the-Trainer certification.

Responsibilities

  • Map each grade curriculum to the State Frameworks.
  • Provide instruction in the content in accordance with the Massachusetts Vocational-Technical Frameworks in the specified career area.
  • Enforce all OSHA safety regulations within the career education setting.
  • Instruct students in the field when participating in outside projects.
  • Document student performance, student behavior, and student achievement within the career education setting.
  • Provides review and reinforcement of new concepts; supports students in the completion of their assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of students’ IEPs, as well as the accommodations and modifications necessary for student success; modify assignments, tests, and quizzes in collaboration with special educators, if required.
  • Develop resources for students to be successful, such as models, graphic organizers, and copies of class notes, video clips, demonstrations, etc.
  • Participate as a member of the career area department; collaborate with teachers within the department.
  • Collaborate with teachers in academic disciplines to facilitate learning activities that are cross-curricular and project-based.
  • Collaborate with the Cooperative Education Coordinator to place students in their career area.
  • Maintain documentation, including student performance, behavior, progress data, notation of student absences/tardies, and conversations with parents and administrators.
  • Provide content support outside of the general education classroom, as necessary.
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum.
  • Respond to any correspondence, both oral and written, that comes from a parent or guardian.
  • Participate in conferences and meetings when appropriate; contribute observations and ideas.
  • Attend Advisory Board meetings twice per year; attend Open House.
  • Keep current with changes in your career area; collaborate with Advisory Board members.
  • Accept additional responsibilities as may be required under the direction of the Coordinator of Career Technical & Agricultural Education.
