About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is hiring an extraordinary Locum Veterinary Receptionist. This role is crucial to the success of our hospital, as you will be the first point of contact for clients, ensuring they receive the care and attention they need. The ideal candidate will be able to function calmly and compassionately in potentially emotional and difficult situations. As a Veterinary Receptionist, you will greet clients warmly, listen compassionately, and communicate clearly. You will assess the needs of arriving clients and their pets, distinguishing between emergency and standard arrivals. You will also handle non-patient calls, confirm appointments, and provide emotional support and resources to grieving clients, serving as a liaison during the handling of pet remains.

Responsibilities
- Greet and make friendly eye contact with every client.
- Offer a friendly smile, strong eye contact, and an approachable demeanor.
- Be a compassionate listener.
- Speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone.
- Assess immediately upon arrival each client’s rare need, as well as the pet’s general condition.
- Determine whether an emergency arrival is a “stat” versus “standard” emergency.
- Respond to non-patient calls or visitors and connect them to the appropriate team member.
- Confirm all appointments in advance ensuring clients receive accurate information about preparing their pet for the appointment.
- Offer emotional support and resource materials to grieving clients in a compassionate and discreet manner.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and service agencies during handling of pet remains by ensuring a complete, accurate, and compassionate process.
