About The Position

The primary focus of the position is to assure proper compliance with state and federal drug regulations, ordering restrictions, record keeping and storage of more than $600,000 in pharmaceutical drugs and medical supplies used by the veterinary team. Inventory control, proper storage, checking expirations, ordering just-in-time inventory to keep costs minimized. Starting Salary $39,312 - $51,105

Requirements

  • Knowledge of regulations/requirements from state and federal agencies related to Pharmacy and controlled substances.
  • Knowledge of drug names, classes, and ability to identify the proper drug when supplying to veterinarians or other team members.
  • Ability to develop and maintain complex inventory systems for regulated drugs; with 100% accuracy of receipt and use.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of budget management practices and procedures.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and develop logical conclusion.

  • Analytical Ability: Analyze the current drugs versus new drugs coming to market to determine the cost/benefit of utilizing one drug over another including effectiveness and cost.
  • Associate degree in science (Zoology, Biology or Veterinary Science) or a Certified Pharmacy Technician or Certified Veterinary Technician; and
  • Minimum of 3 years of work in pharmacy including controlled substances or 5 years working as a Veterinary Technician; or
  • An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma or GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below. The equivalency statement applies only to education and experience requirements and does not include legally required licenses or certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assure compliance with state and federal requirements for the purchasing, use, storage and recordkeeping of controlled and non-controlled substances. Must stay current on pending and recently adopted changes.
  • Work directly with procurement and fiscal for just-in-time ordering and suppling of needed drugs. Some controlled substances will require special forms and licenses to purchase and use them in the veterinary section.
  • Perform internal audits of the use and dispensing of drugs, assuring that all PRC protocols have been followed. Should be looking for constant improvement.
  • Develop and implement procedures and processes to improve tracking, inventory control, and recordkeeping aspects for veterinary services as it relates to pharmacy substances and medical supplies.
  • Establishes and maintains an online inventory control system utilizing the best available automation or use of scanning technology to assure up-to-the-minute accuracy of drug and medical supplies inventories.
  • Supervises and performs efficient and accurate dispensing of medications for adopters.
  • Minimize waste and control costs related to medical supplies and inventories.
  • Oversees and maintains integrity of medical records, including lab results, inventory, and controlled drugs, to ensure accuracy.
  • Performs and delegates requests from phone calls and emails to Veterinary Services.
  • Assists Veterinary Supervisors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
