About The Position

The Veterinary Oncology Assistant is a part-time, non-student hourly position within the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital Oncology Service. This role supports veterinary oncologists and oncology nursing staff by assisting with patient handling, basic patient assessments, medical record data entry, and clinic operations. This position offers valuable hands-on experience working with feline and canine patients in a collaborative clinical environment dedicated to advanced veterinary oncology care. The Department of Clinical Sciences mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and personal accountability.
  • Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform simple data entry tasks.
  • Willingness to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Must be able to work 1–2 shifts per week.
  • Shift availability required Monday–Friday between 7:30 AM and 3:00/4:00 PM
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and assist with animal handling.
  • Must adhere to hospital safety and animal handling protocols.

  • Previous experience with animal care or animal handling in a clinical, shelter, or similar setting

Responsibilities

  • Work with a large and diverse team of veterinary professionals to assist in patient care (TW)
  • Be punctual and communicate changes in work schedule (PA)
  • Assist in patient data input into electronic medical records system (DP)
  • Assist in patient assessment (obtaining vital signs), patient handling, stocking and cleaning, as well as other procedures and tasks that will help facilitate nursing and veterinary staff in patient care (TW/CD)
