As a Veterinary Medical Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you will perform laboratory testing that aids veterinarians in diagnosing and treating pets. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have worked an alternate shift in the past (overnight or flex shift).
  • Required to work with veterinary clinical samples: blood, urine, fecal samples, surgical biopsies, etc.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
  • Awareness of potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals in a laboratory setting.
  • Punctuality and reliable attendance are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • A 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT).
  • Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
  • Positive attitude and energy.
  • Desire to work in a team.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work reliably and precisely.
  • Strong sense of team spirit and responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analyses and tests using automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples received daily.
  • Set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Specialize in an assigned department, which could include Parasitology, Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, or Cytology.
