About The Position

VCA Marina Bay Cities Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant for our growing hospital. We are a full-service general practice open 7 days a week. Requirements

  • Complex patient care.
  • Review nutrition recommendations.
  • Ability to obtain a patient history and document appropriately.
  • Enter information into the medical record using appropriate medical terminology and standard abbreviations.
  • Obtain patient parameters (weight, temperature, pulse, respiration).
  • Maintain IV fluids.
  • Understand basic medical math calculations.
  • Medication administration (SQ, IV, oral, topical, IM).
  • Perform basic medical math calculations.
  • Understand patient forms, checklists, monitoring forms and safety forms per hospital standard operating procedures.
  • Compassionate handling for anxious and fearful patients.
  • Knowledge of the steps included in professional dental cleaning and dental home care for our patients.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform basic laboratory tests.
  • Handle and collect samples/specimens for evaluation (blood, urine).
  • Under direction, monitor anesthesia and recovery.
  • Fill prescriptions per veterinarian direction.
  • Controlled substance handling based on state regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies under direction and with calm and cool composure.
  • Basic client education (written and verbal).
  • Ability to help mentor and grow newer members of the team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of anesthesia safety.

Responsibilities
