About The Position

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team at Banfield Pet Hospital, responsible for supporting and assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians. This role ensures the safety of pets, clients, and other associates, and contributes to the continuity of quality veterinary care. Key aspects include advocating for pets, educating clients on pet health, and providing professional, efficient, and exceptional service to ensure client and pet comfort. Vet Assistants utilize their technical skills daily, adhering to state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines. The position also involves maintaining patient flow, communicating with the veterinary team, performing procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance, and upholding hospital standards for cleanliness and organization. Additionally, Vet Assistants educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans® and preventive care, and may mentor other team members. Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist the veterinarians and veterinary technicians
  • Ensure the safety of pets, clients and other associates
  • Ensure the continuity of quality veterinary care
  • Advocate for pets
  • Educate clients on all aspects of pet health
  • Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times
  • Make sure that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital
  • Use technical skills on a daily basis, within state practice acts and as outlined in the NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant skills and duties
  • Help maintain the flow of patients
  • Communicate with the veterinarian and vet techs
  • Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance
  • Adhere to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and the treatment areas, exam rooms and labs clean and organized
  • Educate clients about our Optimum Wellness Plans® and the importance of preventive care
  • Mentor other members of the hospital team
