About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join their team at Kings Crossing Animal Hospital. They are looking for a friendly, outgoing, people-oriented individual who is a self-motivated team player, attentive to detail, effective in communication, and demonstrates strong technical skills. The role involves ensuring clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable, assisting veterinarians with nursing care, maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, managing medical records, filling prescriptions, assisting with reception duties, performing laboratory tests, and keeping facilities clean.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant.
  • High school diploma.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk and climb stairs frequently.
  • Must be able to work on computer system and work multi-line telephone.
  • Must be able to handle dogs on leashes.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander and excretions.
  • Must be comfortable restraining animals during medical examinations.
  • Must have experience working in a veterinary clinic
  • Proficient in patient restraint and handling
  • Experience with blood draws, IV catheter placement, and laboratory procedures
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
  • Surgery experience a plus - must be willing to learn inpatient procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing care.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explaining prescription directions.
  • Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and providing telephone support.
  • Performing various laboratory tests.
  • Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
