About The Position
Whitmire Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join their growing team. This role involves supporting veterinarians and technicians in providing excellent patient care from admission through recovery. The hospital is a privately owned small animal practice with five full-time veterinarians, known for high-quality medicine and exceptional client service, and has won 'Best of Dawson' for Veterinary Services and Pet Care multiple times. Requirements
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant in a small animal practice
- Surgical assisting experience required
- Strong patient restraint and animal handling skills
- Experience with laboratory sample collection and diagnostics
- Excellent communication and client service skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to multitask while maintaining a calm, positive attitude
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to support teammates wherever needed
Nice To Haves
- Experience preparing patients for surgery and assisting with anesthesia preferred
Responsibilities
- Assisting with surgical preparation and patient recovery
- Preparing surgical suites and maintaining sterile technique
- Monitoring patients before and after procedures
- Assisting with anesthesia monitoring under veterinarian or technician supervision
- Collecting patient histories and obtaining vital signs
- Safely restraining patients for examinations and treatments
- Collecting laboratory samples and performing in-house diagnostics
- Taking radiographs
- Filling medications and preparing treatment plans
- Cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical equipment
- Educating clients on post-operative care, medications, and preventative health
- Assisting with inventory management and stocking supplies
- Supporting the team during appointments, walk-ins, and urgent care cases
