About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Assistant to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department in Northeast Portland (Hollywood), OR! This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting with estimates, performing diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc.), setting up patients in ICU or the Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The Veterinary Assistant will provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values, report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds, and understand the classification of commonly used medications and their associated side effects. They will administer medications, perform phlebotomy, conduct physical exams, and possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment. Additionally, the role requires staying current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrating proficiency in designated roles.

Responsibilities

  • Triage emergency cases as they come in
  • Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc.)
  • Set up patients in ICU or Inpatient ward
  • Discharge patients
  • Handle client communication
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
  • Perform phlebotomy
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
