Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Fairview Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced veterinary assistant who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and takes pride in providing compassionate patient care. This is a great opportunity for a veterinary assistant who wants to continue building clinical skills while working alongside an experienced veterinary team. As a veterinary assistant, you’ll support our doctors and hospital team throughout the patient-care process. A successful veterinary assistant is comfortable multitasking, communicating with both clients and coworkers, and stepping in wherever help is needed. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of cases and gain experience across multiple areas of veterinary medicine.
Requirements
- At least one year of veterinary experience preferred
- Experience with animal restraint, sample collection, medical histories, laboratory testing, radiographs, surgical assistance, or anesthesia monitoring is a plus
- Compassionate, calm, and patient-focused
- A dependable team player and strong communicator
- Comfortable working in a busy veterinary hospital
- Confident with safe and appropriate pet restraint
- Able to multitask and prioritize effectively
- A self-starter who takes initiative
- Eager to continue developing veterinary knowledge and skills
Responsibilities
- Safely handling and restraining dogs and cats
- Assisting with patient intake and triage
- Obtaining and documenting medical histories
- Collecting and processing laboratory samples
- Assisting with diagnostic imaging and radiographs
- Providing nursing care for hospitalized patients with varying levels of stability
- Administering medications as directed
- Preparing patients for surgery and assisting during procedures
- Supporting anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery
- Communicating treatment plans and recommendations clearly with clients
- Keeping treatment and patient-care areas clean, organized, and ready for the next patient
