About The Position

University of Florida’s Veterinary Community Outreach Program (VCOP) is recruiting a veterinary assistant. The VCOP program is designed to introduce students to the challenges of veterinary practice in both community and shelter environments and give experience in spay and neuter techniques plus preventative medicine of canines and felines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, bend, kneel, pull, push, twist and stand for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-year experience in Veterinary Medicine
  • Certified Veterinary Assistant certification

Responsibilities

  • Animal restraint for exams, catheter placements, bandage changes, anesthesia, etc.
  • Obtain vitals such as TPR and record appropriately in medical record
  • Assist with patient intake and discharge
  • Assist with recovery
  • Document in patient’s medical record
  • Sweeping and moping
  • Maintaining inventory
  • Processing laundry
  • Disinfecting and cleaning equipment regularly
  • Ensuring cage and runs are cleaned daily
  • Client Service/Administrative Support as needed
