Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
Caring Hands Animal Hospital in Merrifield is hiring full-time and part-time Veterinary Assistants to work with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to provide high-quality animal care and customer service. The role involves assisting with examinations, treatments, and surgeries; handling and caring for animals; performing basic laboratory tasks; administering medications and vaccinations under veterinary supervision; maintaining records and clinic areas; and communicating with pet owners. The schedule includes Monday through Friday shifts starting as early as 7:00 AM and ending as late as 8:30 PM, plus rotating Saturday shifts every other weekend from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The salary is $20–$25 per hour, depending on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. Caring Hands Animal Hospitals are large, well-equipped, AAHA-accredited facilities offering convenient hours six days a week and an open-door policy. The hospitals provide full-service care, including computerized patient records, digital radiography, and an in-house laboratory.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of veterinary experience.
- Technical know-how in disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
- Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
- Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
- Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian.
- Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
- Maintain accurate medical records.
- Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
- Clean and maintain the clinic, stock supplies, and ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
