About The Position

Jeffersonville Animal Hospital is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. This role is essential to supporting our veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians while ensuring high-quality patient care and an exceptional client experience. The Veterinary Assistant supports medical staff with patient care, animal handling, hospital cleanliness, client communication, and medical record accuracy. Responsibilities may vary daily based on clinic needs and include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Animal Restraint & Patient Care: Develop skills in safe and humane restraint for diagnostics, sample collection, anesthesia, and medical/surgical procedures. Safely restrain fractious or anxious patients. Monitor hospitalized patients and optimize comfort during treatment. Develop knowledge of vaccinations, lab testing, parasite prevention, common diseases, and basic pet behavior
  • Animal Husbandry: Maintain a safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment for patients. Clean kennels and treatment areas. Handle urine, feces, and other bodily fluids as part of daily sanitation responsibilities
  • Facility Management: Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms, exam rooms, surgical and dental suites, kennels, and hospital areas. Restock supplies. Maintain laundry. Unpack and organize incoming orders. Maintain equipment and tools in proper working condition
  • Instrument Reprocessing: Understand and follow aseptic techniques. Clean, fold, wrap, and prepare surgical instruments and materials properly
  • Client Communication & Support: Interact with clients in a friendly, compassionate, and professional manner. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Answer phones as required. Act as a liaison between veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure continuity of care
  • Medical Records & Software: Maintain accurate medical records and ensure all notations are properly entered. Understand the importance of documentation for patient care. Develop proficiency in Avimark and Microsoft applications
  • Scheduling & Front Desk Duties: Schedule exams, rechecks, surgeries, euthanasias, and medical procedures according to clinic protocols. Manage multiple phone lines efficiently. Request and obtain previous medical records and necessary patient information. Maintain smooth daily clinic flow
