About The Position
Lakeside Spears Animal Hospital is seeking a motivated and talented Veterinary Assistant for their Urgent Care team. This position is crucial for providing excellent service with integrity to the Carbondale area, ensuring that pets receive high-quality, compassionate care during urgent situations. The role involves a variety of tasks to support veterinarians and technicians in delivering immediate and effective treatment to animals in critical condition.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2-years professional veterinary experience preferred, ideally in an ER or Urgent Care setting.
- A high work ethic and positive attitude team member.
- Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely.
- Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow.
- Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress and safe manner.
- Ability to properly set-up and process laboratory samples and tests.
- Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs.
- A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset.
- Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Pet restraint
- Triage incoming patients
- Assisting with diagnostic treatments
- Assisting with nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability
- Assisting with administration of medications
- Effective communication within the team environment
- Alignment of UPC core values
- Ability to withstand unpleasant odors and noises
- Exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases
