Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Buffalo, NY is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Full-time Veterinary Assistant. Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases, assist DVMs with estimates, perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork), set up patients in ICU or Inpatient wards, discharge patients, and handle client communication. The role involves providing nursing care, maintaining cleanliness in ER and ICU, understanding medications, administering medications under LVT guidance, performing physical exams, and engaging with clients for triages, estimates, and discharge instructions. Assistants are also expected to remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases as they come in
- Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed
- Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc)
- Set patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward
- Discharge patients
- Handle client communication
- Assist with nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values
- Stock, clean and maintain cleanliness in our ER, ICU and other designated areas for the role
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT
- Perform radiography and lab work
- Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort
- Engage with our clients by performing triages, going over estimates and providing discharge instruction
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor
