The Veterinary Assistant acts as the extra eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best quality pet care and to maximize the veterinarian's and veterinary technician’s productivity. This role involves communicating with the veterinary team to maintain patient flow, providing professional and efficient service, performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, ensuring client and pet comfort, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed by state practice acts. The assistant will also educate clients on wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services, obtain client information and maintain medical charts, and ensure safety through proper techniques and maintaining clean areas. Additionally, the role includes assisting with surgery, utilizing technical skills within state guidelines, mentoring other paraprofessionals, and performing other assigned duties.
