About The Position
VCA Blackstone Valley Animal Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Assistant for its general practice team. The role may be full-time or part-time. The assistant supports patient care throughout each visit, from examinations and procedure preparation to treatments, diagnostics, and discharge, working closely with veterinarians and technicians. The position offers hands-on experience with a variety of cases, from wellness visits to more involved procedures, and contributes to the smooth operation of the hospital. The team meets frequently, and employee input helps shape its growth. Compensation is $19.00–$23.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill set. Weekend rotation is required. Responsibilities
- Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in behavior, comfort, and vital signs to the veterinary team.
- Support pharmacy operations, treatments, procedures, and diagnostics.
- Prepare treatment areas, examination rooms, and surgical suites, keeping them clean, organized, and sterile.
- Provide husbandry and comfort care for hospitalized patients, including feeding, walking, cage cleaning, and bedding changes.
- Assist with laboratory procedures and basic diagnostic testing.
- Administer medications and maintain accurate patient records.
- Assist with client communication, education, and coordination during patient intake and discharge.
- Communicate with veterinarians, technicians, and the broader care team to help coordinate patient care.
- Adapt and work efficiently across varied cases and species.
