About The Position

Broad River Animal Hospital is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to work with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to provide high-quality, compassionate medical and surgical care to canine and feline patients. The role supports animal care during examinations, treatments, and surgeries, while helping maintain the clinic’s standards for customer service and a safe, sanitary environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., working four shifts. There are no evening or weekend hours. Compensation is $18.00–$19.00 per hour, based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. Broad River Animal Hospital is locally owned and operated by Dr. Kathleen Allison and Dr. Sue Reinecke, who have practiced veterinary medicine and surgery for a combined 45+ years in Weaverville and Asheville.

Requirements

At least 1 year of veterinary experience.
Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
Perform basic laboratory tests, including collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
Administer medications and vaccinations under a veterinarian’s supervision.
Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Communicate with pet owners about their pets’ care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
