About The Position

SAGE Concord is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Critical Care Unit (CCU) team. This role is ideal for candidates with emergency or critical care experience who thrive in a fast-paced specialty hospital environment and are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. Our state-of-the-art Concord hospital is the largest specialty and emergency veterinary facility in the East Bay, offering advanced Emergency, Critical Care, Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Cardiology services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Strong patient handling and venipuncture skills
  • Ability to perform accurate math calculations for medications and treatments
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and multitasking abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2 years of veterinary clinical experience preferred, ideally in ER or CCU
  • Experience with controlled substance documentation (VACSP knowledge preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and record patient vital signs, behavior, and condition changes
  • Provide compassionate care to hospitalized and critical patients
  • Assist with animal restraint, positioning, and comfort during treatments and procedures
  • Administer medications and assist with IV fluids under veterinary supervision
  • Prepare patients and equipment for diagnostics and procedures
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked CCU treatment area
  • Sanitize cages, kennels, and equipment to maintain hospital safety standards
  • Document treatments, observations, and medication logs accurately
  • Communicate patient updates clearly with veterinarians, RVTs, and team members
  • Support pet owners during emergency and critical care situations
