Veterinary Assistant - Surgery Prep
About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a dedicated Sterile Supply Assistant to join its surgery team. The role is suited to a self-motivated, positive, organized person focused on maintaining high-quality instruments and supporting patient care through sterile preparation. The position also includes nursing care for stable patients in accordance with hospital standards of care and core values. The advertised pay is $18.00–$27.00 per hour. The pay band is a starting point and depends on experience and advancement through the competency leveling system. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or sponsorship transfer. Applicants must have unrestricted, current U.S. work authorization and must not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.
Responsibilities
- Prepare instruments and the operating room for surgery.
- Troubleshoot faulty equipment, remove it from service, and submit it for repair or replacement.
- Maintain appropriate quantities of surgical supplies and equipment.
- Decontaminate and clean operating rooms, the sterile supply room, and equipment according to established procedures.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and wrap packs.
- Serve as a resource for the surgical team regarding surgical equipment.
- Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein.
- Perform physical exams and accurately measure heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and respiratory effort.
- Recognize normal vital parameters and alert a doctor when parameters are abnormal.
- Set up intravenous fluids.
- Administer subcutaneous fluids.
