About The Position

Destination Pet is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join their team at King Crossing Animal Hospital. They are looking for a friendly, outgoing, and detail-oriented individual with strong communication and technical skills to assist veterinarians in providing compassionate nursing care, maintaining medical records, filling prescriptions, performing laboratory tests, and ensuring a welcoming environment for clients and pets. The role also involves assisting with reception duties and maintaining facility cleanliness.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of clinic experience as a veterinary assistant.
  • High school diploma.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must frequently lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk and climb stairs frequently.
  • Must be able to work on computer system and work multi-line telephone.
  • Must be able to handle dogs on leashes.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation chemicals, animal dander and excretions.
  • Must be comfortable restraining animals during medical examinations.
  • Must have open availability and no scheduling restrictions.
  • Able to work weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that clients and pets feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Assisting veterinarians to provide compassionate nursing care.
  • Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian and explaining prescription directions.
  • Assisting receptionists with check-in and checkout procedures and providing telephone support.
  • Performing various laboratory tests.
  • Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Animal restraint
  • Collect blood, urine, and other laboratory samples
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed
  • Place and maintain IV catheters and administer fluids
  • Educate clients on medications, home care, preventive care, and wellness plans
