About The Position

The Veterinary Technician/Assistant will be responsible for assisting the practice with a variety of duties including but not limited to: Assisting veterinarians during exams, surgeries and other medical procedures; monitoring and caring for animals before, during and after procedures Handling and restraining animals in a calm and compassionate manner. Prepare exam rooms and surgical areas, restocking hospital with supplies. Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment; wrapping surgical packs/instruments. Prepare exam rooms and surgical areas with the necessary supplies. Educating pet owners on various products, food and diseases Placing IV catheters; blood draws from cephalic, saphenous and jugular veins Running bloodwork in house on Idexx Catalyst machines Taking x-rays Knowledge of Avimark preferred, but not necessary. Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient care and treatment Prepping and reading of cytology including skin, ears, fecal and urine Cleaning cages, kennels, exam rooms and surgical facilities; maintaining cleanliness of surgical instruments; maintaining cleanliness of clinic premises. Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have 1 year experience as a veterinary technician/assistant
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes emotionally charged environment
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions closely
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new veterinary procedures and technologies
  • Must be comfortable working and restraining cats and dogs
  • Must be comfortable around blood and surgical procedures
  • Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds alone
  • Must have reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • LVT or CVA preferred, but not necessary
  • Knowledge of Avimark preferred, but not necessary
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required
