About The Position

Veterinary Urgent Care in Nashua, NH is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to support our urgent care team. This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant who wants hands-on patient care experience, opportunities to grow, and a three-day workweek in a hospital focused on non-life-threatening urgent cases. Veterinary Urgent Care serves as a vital bridge between primary care and emergency services. We are committed to providing top-notch medical care for pets in their time of need. Our clinic is specially equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including point-of-care ultrasound for guided cystocentesis, an in-house lab, and digital radiography (x-rays). Our highly skilled medical team treats dogs and cats suffering from a variety of non-life-threatening conditions, such as: Ear issues Limping and scooting Hot spots Tooth and nail-related injuries Coughing and sneezing Allergic reactions Minor injuries requiring stitches Vomiting, diarrhea, and not eating Veterinary Urgent Care does not provide 24-hour emergency care. We are not equipped to handle patients in life-threatening conditions. Patients experiencing the following are directed to a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital: Difficulty breathing Major trauma Ingestion of toxic substances Seizures Inability to urinate

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Candidates from vocational co-op programs will be considered
  • Ideally 6 months of experience working in a veterinary hospital setting
  • Basic animal restraint skills and an ability to recognize and respond appropriately to animal behavior
  • Comfortable supporting Veterinary Technicians and doctors in a hands-on clinical environment
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and report patient vitals
  • Assist with prioritizing patient treatments and communicating care needs
  • Serve as an intermediary between the doctor and client for non-essential communication
  • Collect and summarize detailed patient histories following triage by Veterinary Technicians
  • Communicate treatment needs between doctors and Veterinary Technicians, including blood draws and procedures
  • Assist with basic animal restraint and safely read animal behavior
  • Prepare for and assist Veterinary Technicians and doctors with patient care
  • Assist with radiographs and other common urgent care procedures
  • Support hospital cleaning, organization, and patient-care readiness
  • Handle prescription requests, client callbacks, lab work entries, and other patient-related administrative needs
  • Help keep appointments and daily hospital workflow on track
