About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. This role is responsible for providing nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. The Veterinary Assistant will perform physical exams, accurately count heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort. They must understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal. Responsibilities include setting up intravenous fluids, administering subcutaneous fluids, operating all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshooting errors, and aseptically connecting and disconnecting patients from intravenous fluids. The ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload, is also required. A rotating on-call schedule is required once training is completed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
  • Must possess unrestricted, current authorization to work in the U.S. and not require future sponsorship for an employment-based green card.

  • Able to set up intravenous fluids.
  • Administers subcutaneous fluids.
  • Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
  • Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
  • Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
  • Responsible for some post-operative client communication.
  • Must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal.
  • A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.
