About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant. This role involves triaging emergency cases, assisting veterinarians with estimates, performing diagnostics, setting up patients, discharging patients, and handling client communication. The Veterinary Assistant will provide nursing care according to hospital standards, report patient status during rounds, understand medication classifications and side effects, administer medications, perform physical exams, and assist with anesthesia monitoring. They must also remain current on CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in their assigned role.

Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant.
  • Ability to triage emergency cases.
  • Ability to assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates.
  • Ability to perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
  • Ability to set up patients in ICU or Inpatient ward.
  • Ability to discharge patients.
  • Ability to handle client communication.
  • Ability to provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Ability to report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
  • Understanding of classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Ability to perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Knowledge of R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
  • Triage emergency cases as they come in.
  • Assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
  • Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
  • Set up patients in ICU or Inpatient ward.
  • Discharge patients.
  • Handle client communication.
