About The Position

SAGE Veterinary Centers – Concord is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our growing Oncology team. As part of our specialty oncology service, you'll work alongside board-certified veterinary oncologists and Registered Veterinary Technicians to provide advanced, compassionate cancer care in a collaborative hospital environment. This role is ideal for an experienced veterinary assistant who thrives in specialty medicine, enjoys hands-on patient care, and is eager to expand their skills in veterinary oncology. You'll play a key role in supporting patients, clients, and the medical team throughout every stage of treatment. Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience in a clinical veterinary setting.
  • Strong animal handling and technical veterinary support skills.
  • Willingness to learn oncology-specific procedures, treatments, and chemotherapy safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Compassionate, empathetic approach to patient and client care.
  • Calm, adaptable demeanor in emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Collaborative mindset and commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialty or emergency veterinary experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional support for oncology patients before, during, and after treatments.
  • Assist with handling, restraint, and comfort of oncology patients while ensuring a low-stress experience.
  • Support chemotherapy administration and oncology treatments under the direction of veterinarians and RVTs.
  • Follow chemotherapy safety and hazardous drug handling protocols to maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures including blood collection, urinalysis, laboratory testing, and imaging support.
  • Prepare treatment and procedure areas while maintaining cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
  • Monitor patients during and after treatments, promptly communicating changes in condition to the medical team.
  • Provide compassionate client support and education throughout the cancer care process.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation.
  • Assist veterinarians and RVTs during procedures, treatments, and oncology rounds.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative hospital culture focused on exceptional patient care.
