About The Position

Join the VCA West Coast Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital team! We are seeking a dedicated Experienced Veterinary Assistant (VA) to join our Emergency department. The ideal candidate will have a passion for providing high-quality care for animals, with a specific focus on cardiac health. As an integral part of our team, you will work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians and/or assistants, and other staff members to ensure the well-being of our patients.

Requirements

  • 2 years minimum Veterinary Medicine experience as a Veterinary Technician or Assistant
  • Venipuncture

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians in performing diagnostic procedures and treatments related to the emergency department.
  • Comfortable with monitoring anesthesia and assessing patients during procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, radiographs, and routine blood monitoring.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Maintain accurate electronic medical records and ensure proper documentation of procedures.
  • Communicating and educating pet owners on medical conditions, treatment plans, and at-home care.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and standards.
  • Restraining and assisting in patient exams and routine procedures
  • Taking detailed medical histories and patient vitals
  • Assisting our Doctor and Technician staff as needed with patient care
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records
  • Helping clients and doctors during humane euthanasia’s
  • Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately
  • Maintain inventory and supplies for procedures and patient husbandry.
