About The Position

Veterinary Emergency Referral Center (VERC) in Pensacola, FL is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys emergency medicine, hands-on patient care, client interaction, and working as part of a supportive veterinary team. As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll work alongside veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians to provide compassionate patient care, assist with procedures, and help create an exceptional experience for pets and their families.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Veterinary Assistant
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain organized in a high-volume, fast-paced veterinary hospital
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a veterinary medical team
  • Compassionate approach to patients, clients, and fellow team members
  • Commitment to outstanding client service and exceptional patient care
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency veterinary experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of veterinary medicine, including patient restraint, diagnostic imaging, surgical equipment, laboratory equipment, and laboratory procedures preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate hands-on care for emergency and hospitalized patients
  • Safely restrain and handle patients for examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedure
  • Assist with obtaining diagnostic radiographs and preparing patients for imaging
  • Monitor patients and communicate changes in condition to Veterinary Technicians and veterinarian
  • Assist with general patient care, including feeding, cleaning, and maintaining patient comfort
  • Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and supplies for procedures
  • Clean, sterilize, wrap, and properly store surgical instruments and equipment
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary patient care areas
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding their pets and hospital care
  • Help clients navigate their pet's visit with clear and effective communication
  • Maintain attention to detail while managing multiple priorities in a busy, high-volume environment
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, other assistants, and client care team members
  • Continue developing veterinary knowledge and technical skills through training and continuing education
