About The Position

An Emergency/Critical Care Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians by helping care for animals and keeping the hospital running smoothly. They handle tasks such as restraining pets during exams, feeding and exercising patients, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and preparing treatment areas. Veterinary assistants also monitor animals, assist with basic sample collection, stock supplies, maintain records, and provide friendly support to clients. Their role is essential in ensuring animals receive proper care and the veterinary team can work efficiently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least ONE YEAR animal experience is REQUIRED to be considered for this role!
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking and reading) required.

Nice To Haves

  • AVA certification or veterinary assistant program completion preferred.
  • One year of experience working as a veterinary assistant in a busy Urgent care or ER/Specialty hospital preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with emergency patient triage and examinations and provide compassionate client communication
  • Demonstrate attentiveness, strong situational awareness, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Assist with the care and treatment of ICU patients under the direction of the veterinary team
  • Assist with radiographs, blood collection, and other diagnostic procedures
  • Assist with oxygen cage therapy setup, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Facilitate owner visits and provide compassionate support to clients and families
  • Perform CPR according to RECOVER guidelines and support post-resuscitation patient care
  • Provide compassionate patient aftercare and support clients and the veterinary team as needed
  • Maintain appropriate stocking, cleaning, and organization of treatment areas and supplies
  • Follow strict isolation, PPE, sterilization, and infection control protocols
  • Support hospital cleanliness and overall departmental efficiency
