About The Position

Wilkes County Veterinary Services is seeking a Veterinarian (DVM) – Mixed Animal Associate to join their growing team in Washington, Georgia. This role offers variety, autonomy, supportive colleagues, and a caseload that keeps every day exciting. The practice is a true mixed-animal practice, working with small animals (dogs, cats), cattle, small ruminants, and occasional equine. They foster a supportive, low-drama culture with mentorship and collaboration. The role offers real work-life balance with standard hours (M–F 8:00–5:30, Sat AM) and a reasonable, flexible on-call rotation. This is an opportunity to become a trusted veterinarian for local families and farms in a beautiful rural setting with quick access to Augusta and Athens. There are opportunities to grow skills in surgery, bovine medicine, small ruminants, or other special interests, supported by CE and an experienced team.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree / VMD or equivalent.
  • Georgia license (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Experienced in mixed-animal work or a motivated new graduate with strong large-animal interest.
  • Communicative, compassionate, and confident treating varied species—from cats to cattle.
  • A team player who thrives in a collaborative, community-oriented clinic.
  • Excited about hands-on large animal work and willing to participate in rotational on-call duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical, surgical, and emergency care for multiple species.
  • Conduct physical exams; diagnose and treat medical conditions; manage both routine and complex cases.
  • Perform surgeries, including farm and field surgeries.
  • Deliver preventive care—vaccines, nutrition counseling, herd health, parasite control.
  • Complete farm calls and participate in shared on-call duties.
  • Work closely with skilled technicians, assistants, and support staff.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in the practice management system.
  • Build strong client relationships with owners who genuinely value your expertise.
