About The Position

The Office of District Court, Judicial District 5, is seeking a qualified individual to work closely with the clinical director and other members of the team to ensure participants have attainable treatment plans and assist them to be compliant. This position is time-limited, grant funded, full-time. Funding for this position will end on June 30, 2027. The role involves receiving referrals from the Courts, Defense Attorneys, and Prosecuting attorneys; discussing expectations with clients and family members; soliciting input from family members, prior treatment vendors, Veterans' Administration, and program officials; compiling a written report of findings including recommendations; evaluating information and making decisions within established policies and standards; providing crisis intervention services; and maintaining case files, intakes, and contact logs as well as the offender's statistical database accurately and in a timely manner. The position also requires staying current on applicable laws and regulations, as well as clinical developments within a professional area of knowledge, and maintaining professional levels of communication with internal and external contacts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field such as criminal justice, psychology, or social work
  • Experience working with veterans, mental health, and substance abuse
  • Must have a valid NC driver's license
  • Knowledge of substance abuse, addictions, mental illnesses, and casework practices
  • Knowledge of community treatment providers and services
  • Knowledge of treatment modalities
  • Knowledge of social and psychological issues regarding drug use and addictions
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol drug testing methods and notification process
  • Skills in effectively dealing with substance abuse/mental health offender's behavior
  • Skills in documenting behaviors and maintaining accurate records
  • Skills in oral and written communication
  • Skills in keeping within current standards and practices of the social work profession
  • Ability to solve problems analytically
  • Ability to maintain records, files and reports
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Interview, screen, and gather demographic information on offenders whose charges qualify for the treatment of court program.
  • Interview court participants of the Veterans Treatment Court and complete forms.
  • Briefly explain treatment court programs to interested offenders.
  • Notify the District Attorney's Office or Defense Attorney's Office of offenders who meet basic eligibility requirements.
  • Assist participants with life skills such as time management, job hunting, and budgeting.
  • Research employment and community service opportunities for participants.
  • Maintain paper and electronic files on participants.
  • Build and maintain BIO on all veterans.
  • Attend all closed session meetings and court sessions.
  • Provide crisis intervention services.
  • Maintain case files, intakes and contact logs as well as the offender's statistical database accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Keep current on applicable laws and regulations, as well as clinical developments within a professional area of knowledge.
  • Maintain professional levels of communication with internal and external contacts.
