About The Position

Veterans Services Counselors provide information, counsel, advice and assistance to veterans, their families and dependents and to service members concerning services, assistance or benefits to which they are entitled by law or otherwise. Positions at this level perform a variety of veterans affairs counseling functions ranging from the simple to moderately complex; provides information, counsel, advice, and assistance to veterans, their families and dependents and to servicemen concerning services, assistance or benefits to which they are entitled by law or otherwise; directs and refers them to appropriate agencies for other services, assistance and benefits; and performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • General Experience: One year of progressively responsible professional experience as an employment counselor, rehabilitation specialist, social worker, or other professional work experience assisting others with resolving their vocational, health, social, or other personal problems. Such experience must have provided knowledge of interviewing techniques, community resources and local agencies, groups and organizations providing services or benefits to the community it serves; and must have included providing services to veterans.
  • Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information, counsel, advice, and assistance to veterans, their families and dependents, and service members concerning services, assistance, or benefits to which they are entitled by law or otherwise.
  • Direct and refer veterans and service members to appropriate agencies for other services, assistance, and benefits.
  • Perform a variety of veterans affairs counseling functions ranging from simple to moderately complex.
  • Perform other duties as required.
