About The Position

Employee in this position is responsible for providing the service delivery to eligible veterans and their dependents. The employee will provide case management, and be responsible for the allocation of emergency vouchers issued from the Veterans Assistance Fund in accordance with RCWs and County Policy/Procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of generic local community resources.
  • Veterans Assistance Fund by-laws, policies and procedures, RCWs, WACs & County Ordinance.
  • Knowledge of VA law (Title 38 CFR) and Washington State veterans' benefits and programs.
  • Knowledge of the VA system and how it works including knowing exactly where in the system your veterans issue can be solved.
  • Knowledge of how VA claims are processed and how they get through the system for review.
  • Knowledge of veteran organizations, their backgrounds and their missions.
  • Ability and willingness to work independently in a self-directed manner and as part of a Team.
  • Maintains a high standard for accuracy, completeness and efficiency in the preparation of reports.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful situations, relate to various personality styles in a calm, professional manner.
  • Effectively communicates with others for purposes of gathering and relating information.
  • Understands the need for maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Independent and self-motivated to complete required deadlines while simultaneously completing other tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize and problem solve.
  • Good computer and data entry skills.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Prior working experience in providing case management services.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in social services or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with veterans preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Determines basic program eligibility by phone or in person prior to scheduling appointment; at time of appointment performs full needs and barrier assessment, verifies and confirms eligibility documentation, checks past program use for patterns of overuse, abuse or dependency on program.
  • Assists in correctly completing required forms, reviews forms for accuracy, requests additional information as necessary and answer all questions regarding eligibility
  • Provides case management to assist veterans and their dependents referred by the Community Resource Team or other community service providers and makes appropriate referrals to other community resources; assures compliance with all state and county regulations in the administration of the program funds; is knowledgeable in relevant VA law (38 CFR), RCWs.
  • Works closely with the Veterans Advisory Board and the Community Resource Team.
  • Attend appropriate community meetings, trainings and workshops
  • Develops and maintains a complete voucher accounting system to track all aspects of veteran data and voucher accounting.
  • Issues voucher for emergency financial assistance; administers and disburses voucher budget.
  • Provides a variety of reports to Human Services Accounting Coordinator, Human Services Director and the Veteran's Assistance Fund Board; designs program guidelines documents, application forms, accounting forms and any other forms/documents as necessary.
  • Networks with corresponding program managers in surrounding counties to identify persons using Veteran's Assistance Fund programs in more than one county; standardizes program procedures with those of other counties as much as may be feasible.
  • Other tasks as directed.
