Veterans Cemetery Caretaker I
About The Position
Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast is a state-owned cemetery in Greenup County that maintains national cemetery standards and provides dignity and respect to veterans and their families. The Veterans Cemetery Caretaker I participates in burial operations for veterans and eligible family members and supports special events, including Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Wreaths Across America ceremonies. The position also maintains cemetery grounds and gravesites. The ideal candidate is career-minded, self-motivated, energetic, able to work independently, and able to contribute as part of a team serving Kentucky’s veterans.
Requirements
- High school graduate.
- At least one year of experience in cemetery caretaking, grounds maintenance, golf course greens keeping, landscaping, farming, military service, or other related experience.
- College courses or technical training in horticulture or a related field may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must maintain any required licenses, certifications, or other credentials for the length of employment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cemetery grounds through mowing, weeding, edging, snow removal, and related work.
- Assist with the interment process.
- Perform maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain the dignity and respect of veterans and their families.
- Participate in burial operations for veterans and eligible family members.
- Support special events, including Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Wreaths Across America ceremonies.
