At the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA), our mission is to honor and serve Louisiana’s veterans and their families. We do this by connecting them to the benefits they’ve earned, providing dedicated support, and enhancing their quality of life through compassionate service across the state. We’re looking for a Veterans Assistance Supervisor to join our team. This position is located in Caddo Parish. The Veterans Assistance Counselor Supervisor will serve as the office manager. The Incumbent functions in a public relations capacity in the parish where assigned. Directly supervise VAC 1/2 and may supervise an Administrative Assistant. Direct supervision comes from the Regional Manager. This position will be filled by a current, permanent LDVA employee.

Requirements

  • Must be an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces who served on an active, full-time basis.
  • Six years of experience in veterans service work, public benefits claims examining, social services or human resources; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in veterans service work, public benefits claims examining, social services or human resources; OR A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in veterans service work, public benefits claims examining, social services or human resources; OR A master’s degree plus two years of experience in veterans service work, public benefits claims examining, social services or human resources.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as office manager to assist subordinates in the more complex aspects of governing laws and regulations.
  • Studies all new laws and regulations passed by the federal and state governments, and those made by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Conducts personal interviews and counsels veterans and their dependents regarding entitlement under state and federal laws.
  • Assist veterans and their dependents in completing a variety of forms, gather supporting documentary information, and monitor the processing of claims through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' computer system and other government entities that provide benefits, to a justifiable conclusion.
  • Maintain current records on all transactions and file correspondence in veterans' files or other proper place: prepares and submits periodic written reports reflecting the total office production.
  • Attends all training and continuing education classes to maintain accreditation.
