About The Position

The Office of Veterans Affairs (VA) is recruiting for a Veteran Service Officer Technician. This role performs administrative clerical support work involving a variety of complex programs and services within the department. Incumbents will provide support with case management and claims processes, interpreting and explaining program regulations, policies and procedures, explaining program benefits and resources, and prepares necessary correspondence and reports; maintains records. This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFD), or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX) or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment. Your County employment must be clearly listed in your work experience.

Requirements

  • Must possess two (2) years of full-time equivalent work experience performing complex clerical tasks in an office environment.
  • Experience may include duties performed that are non-routine in nature and requires exercising independent decision making related to duties performed for case management, determining eligibility and/or providing services.
  • Must obtain California Department of Veterans Affairs (CALVET) accreditation within eighteen (18) months of hire.
  • Must be a current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFD), or Special Districts employee holding a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX) or intern position.
  • Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.
  • County employment must be clearly listed in work experience.
  • San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
