About The Position
Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians the opportunity to work in two distinct settings: Vetco Vaccination Clinics and Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. In both environments, veterinarians can make a difference in pets' lives daily. The role provides flexible online scheduling with no minimum or maximum shift requirements, offering various weekday and weekend hours. Relief veterinarians can set their own rates and continue outside practice activities without agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow, and trained staff handle operations, allowing veterinarians to focus on care. The company provides monthly newsletters for updates and a 15% discount on Petco products and services. Vetco Vaccination Clinics focus on basic wellness, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement, primarily located within Petco stores or advanced mobile van units, and do not offer surgeries, emergency, or illness care. Vetco Total Care hospitals are full-service, providing preventive care, diagnostics, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures, equipped with digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound, and fully equipped surgery suites. These hospitals have licensed staff and no overnight or emergency on-call shifts. Petco aims to provide high-quality veterinary care in 48 states.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine state license in good standing
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions including the ability to perform blood draws & administer vaccines
- DEA in good standing required for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts
- Ability to provide Professional Liability Insurance + license defense policy
- Compliance with all local state and federal mandates
Responsibilities
- Perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement (Vetco Vaccination Clinics)
- Provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures (Vetco Total Care hospitals)
- Perform blood draws and administer vaccines
- Provide exceptional care to pets
