About The Position

The Venue Technical Director & Digital Marketing Coordinator is a 50/50 split role, serving as the primary technical production contact for Loos Center for the Arts - a 1,016-seat performing arts center located on the campus of The Woodstock Academy in Woodstock, Connecticut - and also as the day-to-day manager of The Woodstock Academy's social media presence and visual storytelling. Loos Center operates a fully networked digital venue; nearly all technical systems - lighting, audio, intercom, show control, and communications - are IP or protocol-based. This role oversees all production technical operations for approximately 25 public-facing concerts and performances per year, as well as additional internal events, meetings, and facility rentals, serving as the primary lighting designer, programmer, and console operator for all productions, maintaining all technical systems, and advancing shows with touring artists and management. In addition, this role manages the school's social media accounts and content strategy, serves as the school's day-to-day photographer, and supports operational functions as a trusted partner to the Executive Director of Loos Center for the Arts. The successful candidate will: Be a technically skilled, safety-conscious professional with strong hands-on experience in theatrical lighting design and programming, working knowledge of professional live sound systems and rigging, and the organizational ability to advance shows, maintain systems, and support a small but high-caliber performing arts organization - while also being a capable photographer, videographer, and social media content creator. The ideal candidate is resourceful, dependable, and comfortable working both independently and alongside touring production crews at a professional level, as well as creating content that represents the school's programs and events to a public audience.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience in lighting design and/or programming for live events - concerts, theater, or similar
Advanced proficiency with the ETC Eos console family (Apex, Gio, Ion, or equivalent); hands-on experience with the ETC Gio @5 strongly preferred
Working knowledge of DMX/sACN signal flow, LED fixture operation, and moving light programming and fixture maintenance
Familiarity with theatrical rigging practices, fly system operation, and safe overhead work procedures
Experience advancing shows and communicating with touring artists and production crews (or a willingness to learn)
Hands-on experience with professional live sound systems, digital mixing consoles, and RF wireless microphone systems (or a willingness to learn)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; professional demeanor when working with artists, crews, patrons, and school community members
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and problem-solve under pressure
Basic experience managing social media accounts and creating photo and video content, including both DSLR and mobile capture (or a willingness to learn).
Evening and weekend availability during the academic year as events require
High school diploma required

Nice To Haves

ETCP certification (Entertainment Electrician and/or Rigger) or equivalent formal safety training
Experience with Follow-Me or similar automated follow-spot tracking systems
Familiarity with d&b Audiotechnik PA systems and/or Yamaha CL/QL console series
Experience with AV-over-IP protocols and network configuration (Dante, sACN)
Experience with Shure ULXD wireless system management and RF coordination software
Familiarity with ETC Unison/Paradigm architectural control systems
Knowledge of QLab or other show control/playback software
Experience with video projection systems and basic AV integration
Familiarity with social media scheduling and content management tools
Prior experience in a small-to-mid-size performing arts venue or school setting

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary lighting designer, programmer, and console operator for all productions and events; advanced experience with the ETC Eos family is required.
Design and execute lighting control operation for concerts, theatrical productions, recitals, and special events
Program, operate, and maintain the full lighting and effects fixture inventory, including but not limited to: ETC, High End, Chauvet Chroma-Q, Elation, and Ultratec fixtures
Maintain working knowledge of the full audio system, including but not limited to Yamaha, Sennheiser, Shure, and d&b Audiotechnik PA systems to operate, troubleshoot, and support visiting engineers
Perform system checks, patching, and basic signal flow troubleshooting
Provide audio support for internal events and serve as the primary technical liaison to visiting A1s and touring crews, including microphone placement, basic patching, level setting, and advanced communication of system specs
Maintain the full microphone, DI, and audio cabling inventory
Operate and maintain all fly systems and overhead rigging infrastructure in accordance with ETCP/ANSI standards
Rig and hang lighting fixtures, scenic elements, soft goods, and touring equipment per safe rigging practices
Manage the projection systems and supplemental high-output projectors as needed
Assist with set construction, scenic installation, and strike as needed
Maintain and configure temporary staging decks and support structures as needed
Advance all technical production elements with touring artists, agents, and management teams prior to each event
Review and assess technical riders; identify conflicts, substitutions, or resource gaps and communicate proactively to the Executive Director
Prepare and distribute production schedules, load-in timelines, and technical information packets
Serve as the primary on-site technical liaison for visiting production crews, engineers, and touring personnel on event days
Coordinate production logistics, including labor calls, equipment rentals, and outside vendor and contractor relationships
Maintain updated technical documentation including patch sheets, fixture schedules, system diagrams, console show files, and the online Tech Kit
Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of all technical systems: lighting, audio, rigging, projection, intercom, and staging
Maintain an accurate inventory of all technical equipment and consumables
Identify and report equipment issues requiring outside service, warranty repair, or capital investment
Ensure all technical areas (stage, wings, fly loft, lighting booth, audio booth, and equipment storage) are organized, clean, and safe at all times
Manage power distribution infrastructure including company switches (200A and 400A), switched/unswitched Edison circuits, and PowerCon, True-1, and Cam-style cabling
Manage The Woodstock Academy's official social media accounts and implement an ongoing content strategy that supports admissions and advancement goals
Maintain strong awareness of events, activities, and programs at The Woodstock Academy and incorporate them into social media as appropriate
Create and publish content, including images, video, and copy, and create on-brand promotional graphics
Build and run paid social media advertisement campaigns for admissions as directed
Promote and monitor post interactions across platforms
Serve as the day-to-day photographer of The Woodstock Academy using both DSLR and mobile cameras
Capture photo content for The Woodstock Academy's magazine, The Gleaner
Maintain The Woodstock Academy's digital library of photos and videos
Manage the school's profile on school search websites such as Niche
Collaborate with outside marketing vendors (photographers, videographers, etc.) as needed
Assist with box office and ticketing platform operations as needed, including event setup, reporting, and patron inquiries
Support general event-day front-of-house and operational logistics as directed by the Executive Director
Assist with facility rentals by orienting renters to available equipment packages and supervising technical use
Serve as an advisor and technical resource to the Loos Center's student Technical Theater Club, supporting weekly meetings that introduce students to lighting, sound, rigging, projection, and follow-spot operation
Other duties as assigned
