About The Position

The Venue Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring all events are set up accurately and meet client expectations and requirements. This role oversees cleaning and sanitation programs to maintain a consistently clean and safe property. The manager will greet guests warmly and provide proactive assistance as needed, communicating effectively with clients and the Pier Sixty team to support seamless event execution. This position leads the Venue Operations team, upholding high standards of service, cleanliness, and presentation, and collaborates closely with Events, Banquets, Sales, and culinary teams to support planning and daily departmental operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
  • Minimum two years’ management experience in Event Services, Convention Services, Housekeeping Management or Catering Services within a hotel or catering facility required.
  • Ability to notice and recognize incorrect details related to the venue and cleanliness items and ensure that projects are completed up to Pier Sixty standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all other departments regarding needs to ensure that the product is up to Pier Sixty’s standards of quality and cleanliness.
  • Ability to create a productive, efficient, and enjoyable work environment by motivating staff, implementing new procedures, generating new ideas, and instilling company values within the team.
  • Ability to supervise a large staff and accomplish goals on a timely basis.
  • Effectively conduct meetings and maintain communication lines between team members and management personnel.
  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently the English language in order to effectively deal with external and internal customers.
  • Ability to collect accurate information from customers to resolve conflict.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Team Members, management, clients, and vendors as necessary.
  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations and cleanliness-related items.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 and push and pull up to 150lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop on a consistent basis.
  • If Driver License acquired, must ensure safe driving and transport of food, beverage and paper products and must adhere to annual driver license checks to ensure validity for driving.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity of hand in order to use all property equipment and tools.
  • Maintain professional appearance and behavior when in contact with guests and team members.
  • Know and follow all Pier Sixty emergency, safety, and health procedures.
  • Follow Policies and Procedures in training manuals and Team Member handbook.
  • Follow the sign in and out procedure for keys as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, supervise, and schedule the Venue Ops Team alongside the Director of Venue Operations, including counseling, discipline, training, and direction.
  • Attend scheduled BEO meetings to understand equipment set ups, staging, lighting, linen, load-in and storage requirements for each event, and to ensure any event changes are thoroughly communicated.
  • Complete a general overview of day events and designate work responsibilities equally to staff.
  • Manage and lead the Venue Operations team to ensure efficiency, quality, cleanliness, organization, and proficiency.
  • Work with the receiving department to ensure all linen orders arrive in full, placing daily linen orders and rental lumber when necessary after checking par levels.
  • Meet and greet clients on the day of the event and assist in any of their needs.
  • Create and maintain a regularly scheduled cleaning program for restrooms, floor care, hard cleaning, and detail cleaning projects.
  • Track and record completion of daily housekeeping through checklists and other tools.
  • Develop and deliver effective housekeeping training and educate all housemen and housekeeping staff on cleanliness, tidiness, and hygiene standards.
  • Assist in maintaining and controlling all housekeeping equipment.
  • Direct and manage all aspects of housekeeping, including scheduling, staffing, and quality of cleaning.
  • Manage and lead team members to ensure accurate set ups, venue cleanliness, organization, and ultimately satisfied clients.
  • Manage rental linen ordering & storage process.
  • Create a weekly schedule and complete the corresponding payroll.
  • Write up party reports for each event for future reference.
  • Proactively manage AV Production load-ins and load-outs, ensuring appropriate measures are taken to protect the building (e.g., doors, walls, floors, carpet).
  • Maintain ongoing communication with overnight teams and work on the overnight shift throughout the year to increase knowledge of operations.
  • Maintain communication with the Banquet Event Manager during events to assist where necessary.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of team members.
  • Assist the Director of Venue Operations with the direction and maintenance of the cleanliness program.
  • Lead and provide hands-on support for events staff, including providing detailed task lists, following up on delegated projects, and ensuring quality of work product.
  • Set standards and prioritize work, setting daily, weekly, monthly preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor team performance, product quality, and production flow; foster continuous improvement where necessary.
  • Order all linen and lumber, ensuring par levels are inventoried, linen is ordered, checked upon delivery, and credit is received for unopened linen.
  • Complete daily notes to be reviewed at weekly meetings, including continuous problems, suggestions for increased efficiency, and new ideas.
  • Ensure that party reports are written for each event for future information.
  • Work with the sales team and clients to determine power, lumber, staging, lighting, linen, load-in, and storage needs.
  • Work closely with the Director of Banquet Services to make sure events run smoothly.
  • Open and close facility as needed.
  • Enforce safety procedures and cleanliness standards throughout the facility.
  • Undertake special projects and assignments for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain area in a clean condition at all times.
  • Perform all reasonable requests by direct report as needed.
