About The Position

This position will be filled at either the Vendor Quality Specialist II or Vendor Quality Specialist III level, commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The role requires significant overnight travel (50-75% of the time), potentially including international travel. The primary function is to perform source surveillance activities at vendor facilities to ensure components and services comply with specifications and quality standards. This includes conducting quality inspections, overseeing in-process production, approving staff qualifications, ensuring adherence to processes and procedures, and managing the acceptance of final products. The role also involves supporting commercial grade dedications, collaborating with manufacturers on inspection schedules, and maintaining up-to-date training and qualifications. A key aspect is the ability to work in a nuclear environment and demonstrate courage by stopping production when quality concerns arise. Attention to detail is crucial for reviewing large volumes of technical and quality documentation to ensure compliance with procurement documents. The position requires independent work, high levels of management technical communication, and the identification of defects across a wide variety of product lines, all while adhering to safety policies.

Requirements

• Vendor Quality Specialist II: 2-3+ years of directly related experience.
• Vendor Quality Specialist III: 5-6+ years of directly related experience.
• Nuclear power experience preferred.
• Full knowledge of research and planning methodology.
• Full knowledge of NRC regulations, industry codes, and industry standards.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Effective personal computer skills (Microsoft Office products/SharePoint).
• Ability to process, analyze, and interpret information quickly.
• Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Manual dexterity, color vision ability, and hearing ability.
• Ability to stoop, stand, and bend.
• Experience with SAP, preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of quality program requirements and planning methodology.

• Experience with short circuit modeling software preferred.
• Understanding of IEC 61850 communication protocol for intelligent substation protection is a plus.

• Programming skills for automation of system studies (e.g., Python, .NET, C#, etc.) is a plus.
• Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Responsibilities

• Performs source surveillance activities at vendor facilities to provide reasonable assurance that components and services comply to specification and quality standards.
• Performs quality inspections and surveillances in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting and observing visual and measurement tests with calibrated equipment.
• Stops work for non-compliant work.
• Provides oversight of production activities by approving staff qualifications and ensuring processes and procedures are followed.
• Responsible for final acceptance of products.
• Coordinates material control of non-compliant items through segregation and traceability.
• Supports commercial grade dedications by witnessing manufacturing activities, testing of products, and reviewing technical and quality documentation.
• Collaborates with manufacturers and project managers to develop inspection schedules.
• Responsible for keeping training and qualifications up to date.
• Ability to work in a nuclear environment.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Understanding of nuclear plant systems, equipment, and general operation parameters.
• Skilled with handheld measuring and Test devices such as micrometers, borescopes, multi-meters, radius gauges, and go no-go gauges.
• Competencies with Foreign material, packaging, and non-destructive testing inspections.
• Competencies with nuclear industry standards such as 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, NQA-1, ASME, ASTM, etc.
• Ability to demonstrate courage by stopping production when quality concerns arise.
• Attention to detail with reviews of large volumes of technical and quality documentation to ensure compliance with procurement documents such as specifications, codes, standards, and regulations.

• Expected Hiring Base Salary Range: Vendor Quality Specialist II Salary Range $81,900 to $106,400
• Expected Hiring Base Salary Range: Vendor Quality Specialist III Salary Range $90,900 to $118,100
