This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As the Manager of Vehicle Test Engineering team, you will manage a multi-disciplinary team of test engineers to define, plan, and execute integrated vehicle qualification and acceptance testing for the MK1 Transfer Stage. You will define and enforce test engineering standards and processes and standards, and ensure a safe testing environment. You will plan for, and lead execution of all functional, performance, and environmental tests on flight vehicles and qualification articles. As the manager of an active test team, you will be actively engaged on the floor with test engineers as they perform fluid, electrical, structural and mechanism testing. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, computing, or another technical field.
  • Experience leading system-level testing of complex aerospace systems including one or more of the following test disciplines - fluids, structural, electrical, and environmental tests.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading People formally or informally, including fostering a culture of action, accountability, coaching, and development
  • Deep technical knowledge of spacecraft integrated vehicle test campaigns including: functional, performance and environmental testing.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours to support test planning and execution
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of integrity.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Passion for human spaceflight and Lunar exploration

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NASA programs and human spaceflight programs
  • Deep technical knowledge of in-space vehicle systems, including key performance drivers, subsystems, and the fundamental physics of operating a vehicle in space
  • Knowledge of project scheduling including development of IMP/IMS, critical path analysis, and schedule risk analysis
  • Experience with non-traditional approaches to System Engineering, test engineering and Integration

Responsibilities

  • Manage the people of the Vehicle Test Engineering organization, fostering career development and raising the bar of performance through a focus on strategic planning, high quality decisions, collaboration, communication, and trust.
  • Develop test plans to efficiently test all test requirements
  • Develop test procedures to safely and efficiently operate the vehicle during test operations.
  • Define and enforce test engineering processes and best practices
  • Plan and manage staffing allocations across multiple vehicle test campaigns ensuring adequate coverage.
  • Manage test engineer training and certifications
