About The Position

Under basic supervision, the Vehicle Safety Technician is responsible for supporting emergency medical services operations by ensuring ambulances and related vehicles are properly maintained, equipped, and ready for street duty. This position performs routine inspections, minor maintenance, vehicle and quarters cleanliness, and supply stocking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of general office policies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.
  • Knowledge of records maintenance and retention practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of time management methods.
  • Skill in typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
  • Skill in using a multi-line phone system.
  • Skill in organizing and completing multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in operating a computer includes standard software and some specialized software.
  • Skill in interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Skill in maintaining and handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Current valid Iowa or Illinois Class C driver's license.
  • Current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification or obtain one upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all vehicles, both active and inactive, meet established criteria for street readiness and duty status.
  • Performs minor maintenance on ambulances and equipment, tags ambulance compartments, and stocks equipment and supplies necessary for the operation of emergency medical services.
  • Maintains vehicle cleanliness and retrieves, replaces, or restocks items associated with emergency medical services operations.
  • Completes audits and inventories of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records and filing systems, verify accuracy of information, research discrepancies, and records information.
  • Verifies and reviews forms and reports for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures.
  • Prepares, scans, copies, and distributes a variety of files and documents; ensures proper filing of documents in departmental or central files.
  • Answers, screens, and redirects incoming calls; assists and directs visitors to appropriate locations or staff; responds to customer concerns and requests for information.
  • Ensure assigned quarters are maintained in a clean, organized, and orderly manner.
  • Complies with and always follows the Department's established infection control plan.
  • Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or other members of the management staff.
