About The Position

Requires a wide variety of tasks to ensure that company vehicles are washed/sanitized, mechanically sound and ready for their next trip. This role is responsible for monitoring the shipping schedule to ensure vehicles are ready as needed, maintaining high appearance standards by cleaning vehicles inside and out, and sanitizing cargo areas. The technician will also perform preventative maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, fueling, and topping off fluids. Additionally, the role involves safely moving vehicles and equipment around the facility, documenting vehicle conditions and maintenance performed, and reporting any issues or safety concerns to a supervisor. General and preventative maintenance are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Demonstration of basic vehicle maintenance abilities required to do the job.
  • Requires valid NYS driver’s license.
  • Capable of effectively, consistently and efficiently performing essential tasks daily.
  • Ability to work with others and independently.
  • Basic mechanical ability related to automotive repair.
  • Ability to safely drive various types of vehicles and equipment including manual, automatic, hydrostatic or other types of transmissions.
  • Must be capable of backing up large vehicles safely using mirrors to loading docks or in/out of buildings.

  • Work completed both indoors and outside in all weather conditions at all locations owned by Marshall Farms and its subsidiaries.
  • Willingness to stay late, come back later at night, and come in early to meet trucking schedule requirements.
  • Regular exposure to a variety of physical conditions, such as high noise levels requiring the use of hearing protection, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in high heat and humidity, working at various heights on ladders or other platforms, exposure to various chemicals, dirt, manure, etc.
  • Must be clean shaven to wear a respirator on a routine basis while working with various chemicals like sanitizers for shipping vehicles, paint, etc.
  • Ability to wash shipping vehicles from the ground level, from ladders or other raised platforms including the top roof of a shipping truck.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, lay under vehicles/equipment, work with arms above head for long periods of time.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and various levels of management if needed.
  • Ability to apply problem solving skills and know when something is beyond one’s capabilities and request help from other qualified employees when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL-B level is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the shipping schedule and ensures that tasks are performed in such a way that trucks are ready as needed.
  • Maintains high appearance standard of vehicles/equipment by cleaning inside and out, washing using high pressure washer, manual scrubbing and other methods as needed.
  • Sanitizes cargo area on shipping vehicles using high pressure washer and sanitizing chemicals to ensure high health standards for our animals.
  • Follows proper handling, use and disposal of fluids/chemicals in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Keeps vehicles/equipment available for use by inspecting and testing, completing preventative maintenance such as, oil changes, tire rotation, replacing filters, fueling vehicles, and topping off fluids.
  • Safely moves vehicles and various equipment around the facility including heavy trucks and cargo vans.
  • Pulls large vehicles out and backs them into their storage location, backs up to loading docks to unload shipping crates and other items, pulls in and backs out of the wash bay, etc.
  • Properly documents the condition of vehicles/equipment at point of intake as well as any maintenance that is performed.
  • Reports any issues with a vehicle/equipment they are unable to correct to his/her supervisor.
  • Must advise supervisor if the continued operation of a vehicle or other equipment could be hazardous and should be removed from service.
